A Few Words About Us

The crowning jewel of the technology revolution was the birth of the Internet. It has removed all borders that once caged radio, television and other forms of telecommunications. Not only were these boundaries eliminated by the Internet, but the Internet liberalized telecommunications in a way that rewarded creativity with a limitless universe. Traditional methods of transmitting communications still exist, but are challenged by imaginative opportunities now available only through Internet proficiency. Consequently, the time-honored protocols of broadcasting are no longer in their original formats but have become a hybrid with profound reliance on Internet technology.

One current working example of this creative Internet phenomenon is AfricaTVone (Africa-TV-One). In simple and concise terms, this is television over the Internet. Viewers do not need a traditional television set or a cable television subscription in order to receive programming. All that is required is a computer, any computer, with Internet access and AfricaTVone’s programming can be seen literally anywhere in the world free of charge.

The concept is so powerful that it first eludes the careless reader. But as the reality of it sinks into one’s medulla oblongata (consciousness), it wows that same casual reader. Yes, this conception means that I can have a live event (graduation, church service, convention, etc.) happening in Atlanta, Georgia and any person with an Internet access in Timbuktu, Africa or a remote Liberian village called Dinaywhea in West Africa or the inhabitants in the South American rainforest can view that event live – as it is happening. There is also another option of storing the event in our Video On Demand (vod) file and anyone of our viewers can watch it at their convenience. Even CNN does not presently offer such a luxury.

AfricaTVone was conceptualized by its founder and CEO, J. Dawala Hutchinson and his wife, Lydia Karnga Hutchinson in Atlanta, Georgia in November, 2008. They have since attracted other communications and media professionals including Cyril Lurlay, Doughba Caranda, Alex Gontee, Hassan Kiawu, Bill Corneh, Kola Cooper, Dennis Doboyouah and Christine Hunter.

The team continues to grow as we have formed an affiliate relationship with the premier Internet radio broadcaster, www.runningafrica.com. Additionally, we have begun interviewing local reporters and program producers in several African and European countries including Liberia, Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Ethiopia, Algeria and England. Our vision is clear and our destiny is the expanse of the universe showing and telling the colorful stories about Africa and Africans that, for too long, have been ignored by an indifferent media culture.

Within just three months of its inception in November 2008, AfricaTVone has logged 1,500,000 hits or viewers worldwide and still counting. We also manage a live chat room that facilitates viewer’s comments and feedback on programming. The process of building a programming schedule and library is deliberately measured because, in this venture, a lasting legacy must result from careful craftsmanship.

AfricaTVone is fast becoming a catchword in Internet TV-land and is very popular with Africans in the United States of America and across the African continent. In recent weeks, Africans in Western Europe have become wildly enthusiastic about AfricaTVone. The ability of this technology to induce passion instantly is unprecedented. It illustrates why credible research and consulting data project “tremendous growth of Internet TV subscribers as well as subscriber revenue for the next five years.”

AfricaTVone’s primary U.S. marketing target is the over 10 million African households which the United States Census Bureau describes as being better educated and earning higher incomes than any other immigrant group. AfricaTVone has developed creative methodologies to capture and grow its target market. This explains the incredible early leap in the number of viewers.
